How much does it cost to visit Edinburgh Castle?

Adult tickets start at around £21.50 online, with concessions from £17.50 and children (5–15) from £12.50. Under 5s go free. Booking online is cheaper than paying at the gate.

How long do you need at Edinburgh Castle?

Most visitors spend between two and three hours exploring the castle. Give yourself longer if you want to enjoy a coffee with a view, take in the National War Museum, or watch the One O'Clock Gun.

What time does Edinburgh Castle open?

The castle opens at 09:30 every day. It closes at 18:00 from April to September and at 17:00 from October to March. Last entry is one hour before closing.

How do you get to Edinburgh Castle?

It's a 10-minute walk uphill from Edinburgh Waverley station, easy to reach on the tram (alight at Princes Street) and served by many Lothian bus routes. There is no visitor parking at the castle itself.

Is Edinburgh Castle wheelchair accessible?

Yes — a complimentary mobility vehicle runs from the Esplanade to the upper areas of the castle. Most exhibits, including the Crown Jewels and the National War Museum, are step-free once at the top.

When is the One O'Clock Gun fired?

At 13:00 sharp, every day except Sunday, Good Friday and Christmas Day. Arrive on the ramparts about 15 minutes early for a good view.

Can you see the Crown Jewels at Edinburgh Castle?

Yes — the Honours of Scotland (crown, sceptre and sword) are on display in the Crown Room, alongside the Stone of Destiny. They are included in every entry ticket.

Is Edinburgh Castle worth visiting?

Are there cafés inside Edinburgh Castle?

Yes, there are two cafés and a tea room, all with fantastic views. Prices are what you'd expect for a major attraction, but the setting is unbeatable.

Can I bring a dog to Edinburgh Castle?

Only registered assistance dogs are permitted inside the castle grounds.
